Under the wise leadership of the esteemed President, the people of Turkmenistan welcome every day of the year «Independent neutral Turkmenistan − the homeland of purposeful winged horses» with joyful events, new achievements and creative labour. The motto of the year reflects the special place of noble horses in the historical and cultural heritage of the nation, as an integral part of national pride, statehood traditions and spiritual values.

Turkmen horses have occupied a special place in the life of the people since ancient times, symbolizing statehood, beauty, health and strength. Akhal-Teke horses have gained worldwide recognition as the pride of the Turkmen people, an adornment of celebrations and an important part of the national heritage.

Throughout the year, large-scale efforts are being carried out to develop Akhal-Teke horse breeding, promote national equestrian traditions and further enhance the international reputation of Turkmen horses. Thanks to the efforts of experienced horse breeders, specialists and young people, the glory of Akhal-Teke horses continues to rise globally.

The achievements of young Turkmen athletes participating with Akhal-Teke horses in national and international equestrian competitions further enrich the meaning of the year «Independent neutral Turkmenistan − the homeland of purposeful winged horses». The successful performances of the “Galkynysh” national equestrian games group make a significant contribution to promoting Turkmen equestrian art around the world.

The outstanding performances of the team’s skilled riders at international arenas, where the green flag of Turkmenistan and the flag of the United Nations are proudly displayed, contribute to promoting the country’s peaceful policy and national culture worldwide. One of the important events was the World Championship among Akhal-Teke horses in equestrian sports and beauty competition, held on September 4–6 in Kronenberg, the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The celebrations held during the Year of the Horse add special significance to the festivities dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence. The people of Turkmenistan are approaching this historic date with outstanding labour achievements and great enthusiasm.

The motto of the year is also reflected in the large-scale reforms being implemented in the education sector. On August 29, 2026, in honour of the Day of Knowledge and Student Youth, a scientific and practical conference entitled «Independent neutral Turkmenistan − the homeland of purposeful winged horses» was held at the S.A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University with the participation of professors, teachers, postgraduate students, specialists and students.

During the conference, participants discussed in detail the ongoing reforms in the country’s education system, the significance of opening new educational institutions and the events marking the beginning of the new 2026–2027 academic year. Speakers emphasized that education is a key source of development, renewal and creativity, highlighting the importance of state policy aimed at raising the education system to a new level.

The scientific and practical conference featured presentations on national educational reforms, achievements in the education system, and the significance of the works of Hero-Arkadag and Arkadagly Hero Serdar as sources of knowledge, education and upbringing.

Special attention was paid to the introduction of innovative technologies in agriculture and water management, ensuring high-quality education and strengthening the connection between education, science and production. The conference also highlighted achievements in education during the year «Independent neutral Turkmenistan − the homeland of purposeful winged horses», the activities of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship, and the role of digital technologies in educating and training young people.

The conference continued in sections titled «Independent neutral Turkmenistan − the homeland of purposeful winged horses», «Directions for the Development of Education in the Era of Revival of the New Epoch of the Powerful State», «Digital System — A Pathway to Development», and «The Role of Natural, Exact and Agricultural Sciences in the Innovative Development of Turkmenistan».

The year «Independent neutral Turkmenistan − the homeland of purposeful winged horses» represents a vivid expression of the country’s national values, achievements in education, the creative potential of youth and confidence in future development. Turkmenistan, which places human well-being at the centre of its progress, continues to strengthen its authority in the international arena.
