On August 13, "Ahal" footballers, having won the preliminary round against "Tajikistan's Regar-TadAZ" from Tursunzade with a score of 2:1, won the right to represent Turkmenistan in the group stage of the AFC Champions League-2.

Recall that since last season, the Asian Football Confederation has reformed club competitions on the continent, establishing three new ones: the elite AFC Champions League for the strongest clubs in terms of ranking, the second most important tournament - the AFC Champions League-2 and the lowest in rank - the AFC Challenge League.

The AFC Champions League-2 is an analogue of the previously existing AFC Cup, in which the highest achievement among Turkmen clubs was achieved by Ashgabat's "Altyn Asyr", reaching the final in 2018.
