The State Concern "Turkmengaz" is implementing large-scale projects aimed at improving production efficiency and developing gas chemistry, while placing primary focus on reducing methane emissions. This was stated by Murat Archaev, Deputy Chairman of the State Concern "Turkmengaz," at the pre-conference session of the International Conference and Exhibition "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan - 2025" (OGT 2025), according to a correspondent from Takyk.
Turkmenistan is deploying methane emission monitoring and control systems, including satellite and ground-based observation. Despite an increase in production volumes, total methane emissions have decreased by 10 percent since 2020, Archaev noted.
The Deputy Chairman of the State Concern emphasized that the National Roadmap for Methane Emission Reduction for 2025-2026 is being consistently implemented in the gas production sector. Projects for the utilization of associated gas are being developed, and compressor stations are being modernized.
“As part of Turkmenistan’s Oil and Gas Industry Development Program until 2030, we are concluding international agreements. In particular, contracts have been signed with Baker Hughes, and a contract with Siemens Energy for the repair and modernization of compressor stations is planned. This will contribute to improving equipment efficiency, reducing pressure losses, and minimizing methane leaks,” said the Deputy Head of Turkmengaz.
Murat Archaev summarized that Turkmenistan is purposefully working towards a transition to clean energy based on natural gas, which remains the most environmentally friendly hydrocarbon and serves as a key bridge to a low-carbon future.
The XXX International Conference and Exhibition "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan - 2025" (OGT 2025) is taking place in Ashgabat from October 22 to 24. The forum is organized by the State Concerns "Turkmengaz," "Turkmennebit," and the State Corporation "Turkmengeology," with support from the "Turkmen Energy Forum".
