The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) plans to participate at a high level in the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), which will take place in Turkmenistan in the National tourist zone "Awaza".
This was announced by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi during a meeting with the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the Agency and Ambassador to Austria, Hemra Amannazarov. The IAEA head confirmed the agency’s interest in the conference and its readiness to send a high-level delegation.
The sides discussed current cooperation and outlined steps for its further expansion, including the development of a new Country Framework Program for 2025–2029. Special attention was given to Turkmenistan’s intention to join the IAEA Agreement on the Privileges and Immunities and to preparations for Turkmenistan’s participation in the 69th IAEA General Conference in September.
Ambassador Amannazarov emphasized the importance of international involvement and active support from key global organizations in preparing for LLDC3 — one of the largest international forums to be held in Turkmenistan for the first time.
On the same day, the Turkmen diplomat also met with Sepp Schellhorn, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria, to discuss bilateral cooperation and coordination of efforts ahead of the conference.
