In 2025, a new International Airport is planned to open in the village of Jebel in Balkan velayat, as announced by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
The airport will occupy 275 hectares and will include passenger and cargo terminals, a control center, as well as rescue and fire service buildings. The runway will be able to accommodate different types of aircraft.
The construction began on July 14, 2021, on the initiative of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and is an important project for the western region of Turkmenistan, rich in oil and gas resources and having access to the Caspian Sea.
