From February 2 to 7, the Specialized Chess and Checkers School in Ashgabat hosted the Turkmenistan Classical Chess Championship among boys and girls under 14, 16, and 18. More than 200 players competed for six sets of medals.

Lebap province reaffirmed its leadership in youth chess, winning 5 out of 6 gold medals and 12 out of 18 total awards. Among the champions were Nuraňa Jumanyazova (U14), Mähri Agamuradova (U16), Leýla Şohradova (U18), Gurbanmyrat Rüstemov (U16), and Şageldi Kurbandurdyyev (U18).

For the first time, all regions of the country were represented, including Balkan province and the first private chess academy, "Küşt Älemi." Balkan players were exempt from membership fees as part of a program to promote chess in the region.

The championship will continue with rapid and blitz tournaments, concluding on February 9.
