A delegation from Turkmenistan is participating in the 66th session of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), taking place in Geneva from July 8 to 17, 2025. The Turkmen delegation is headed by the Director of the State Service for Intellectual Property under the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, according to the press service of the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva.
Over 1,000 delegates from WIPO member states are attending the session. Scheduled events include regular and special meetings of WIPO committees and governing bodies, as well as consultations within regional groups. The discussions will focus on strengthening the global intellectual property protection system, developing international cooperation in the fields of patents, copyright, and related rights, and addressing issues related to digital transformation, innovation, and the role of artificial intelligence.
Special attention is being paid to balancing the interests of creators and users of intellectual property in the context of rapid technological progress. The Turkmen delegation plans to hold bilateral meetings with representatives of relevant international organizations and WIPO member states.
Topics of discussion will include the development of a medium-term Intellectual Property Strategy for Turkmenistan aligned with national priorities and global trends, the review of the implementation of the National Intellectual Property Development Program for 2021–2025, and potential cooperation in strengthening national capacity and expanding Turkmenistan's legal framework through accession to WIPO treaties.
Currently, Turkmenistan is a party to 15 WIPO treaties.
