A new direction of animal husbandry is developing in Turkmenistan – breeding African ostriches for the purpose of producing high-quality products from their skin, the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age” reports.

“Düýeguş” farm, which presented its products at the exhibition dedicated to the 17th anniversary of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of the country, demonstrates the potential of this promising direction.

The skin of this bird is an ideal material for creating high-quality products. Currently, the farm is working on the production of various bags, shoes, jackets, bookcases from ostrich skin. It is similar to crocodile and elephant skin, but its quality is higher, the texture is softer and more elastic, the source notes.
