Chairman of the Presidency of Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) Abdullah Eren and his accompanying delegation began an official visit to Ashgabat on April 7.

In an interview with journalists, Eren noted the importance of Turkmenistan for the Turkish people: "Turkmenistan is of vital importance in terms of Turkish culture and history. The greatest scholars, politicians and statesmen of Turkish-Islamic history came from this region of Khorasan and Khorezm."

The YTB Chairman also mentioned that the current trade volume between the countries is about $2.5 billion, and there are plans to increase it to $5 billion.

"We love the Turkmen people very much. We have a common historical past," Eren emphasized, noting the importance of Turkmenistan as an integral part of the Turkic world along with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
