The British magazine FourFourTwo has published a ranking of the 100 greatest footballers in history, in which Argentine forward Lionel Messi claimed the top spot. Brazilian legend Pelé took second place, while Diego Maradona came in third. Cristiano Ronaldo was ranked fourth.

Lionel Messi, born on June 24, 1987, in Rosario, Argentina, began his professional career at Barcelona, where he spent 18 years, becoming the club’s all-time top scorer with 672 goals in 778 matches. With Barcelona, he won 10 La Liga titles and 4 UEFA Champions League trophies.

In 2021, Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain, and in 2023, he moved to the American club Inter Miami. On the international stage, he became a World Cup champion in 2022 and a two-time Copa América winner.

Messi’s recognition as the greatest footballer in history by FourFourTwo highlights his outstanding contribution to world football and cements his status as a true legend of the sport.
