As part of his working visit to the United States of America, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

The two leaders noted that both countries currently possess significant potential for the development and strengthening of bilateral cooperation. It was emphasized that Turkmenistan and Portugal regularly support each other’s constructive international initiatives and act as co-sponsors within the framework of the United Nations.

In this context, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov pointed out that, at Turkmenistan’s initiative, the year 2025 has been declared the “International Year of Peace and Trust” by a UN General Assembly resolution, and that this event coincides with the landmark 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality. He invited President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to take part in the International Forum to be held on December 12 in Ashgabat.

Thanking him for the invitation, the President of Portugal emphasized that Turkmenistan’s peace-oriented foreign policy, based on positive neutrality, enjoys broad support in the international community and enhances the country’s standing as a responsible participant in global dialogue.
