The Mejlis of Turkmenistan, in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and international organizations, organized annual nationwide awareness-raising sessions on children's rights in children’s health and recreation centers across the country. The sessions were also supported by the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, the Regional Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia, the Delegation of the European Union to Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, and the Office of the Ombudsperson.
The sessions were conducted at children’s health centers “Ýaşlyk” in Gökdere, “Bagtyýar nesil” in Dashoguz province, and “Arkadagyň bagtyýar nesli” in Mary province. Children aged 8 to 12 participated in the activities.
The participants learned about fundamental rights and the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of the Child through interactive exercises and games. Animated videos were also shown during the sessions.
These sessions were organized within the framework of the project “Strengthening National Capacity for the Collection and Use of Data on Children’s Rights in Turkmenistan,” co-financed by the European Union.
