On September 8, negotiations were held in Ashgabat between representatives of the Russian and Turkmen Ministries of Foreign Affairs. Director of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Kirill Logvinov and his Turkmen counterpart Rahman Annaberdiev discussed cooperation within the UN. The negotiations became part of the practical implementation of the Cooperation Program between the foreign ministries of the countries.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on current issues on the UN agenda and spoke about their priorities at the 80th session of the General Assembly. The diplomats also exchanged assessments of the UN-80 reform initiative. It was especially noted that any changes in the World Organization should be balanced, rational and fully consistent with the provisions of the UN Charter.
Following the meeting, it was emphasized that the positions of Moscow and Ashgabat on many international issues coincide. The parties expressed their readiness to further strengthen their strategic partnership within the UN and develop bilateral cooperation based on friendship, mutual respect and consideration of each other's interests.
