The 13th meeting of the Turkmen-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Ashgabat on October 13. The Russian side was headed by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin, and the Turkmen side was led by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Nokerguly Atagulyev. Speaking at the meeting, Khusnullin stated that trade between the countries had grown by more than 30% in the first seven months of this year.
The head of the Russian delegation noted that this was his first visit to Turkmenistan as co-chair of the intergovernmental commission.
Khusnullin stated that Turkmen-Russian cooperation has a solid foundation and continues to develop dynamically. Active collaboration is underway in industry, energy, culture, and education. Trade turnover is growing, having increased by more than 30% in the first seven months of this year. At the same time, the opportunity has emerged for Russian marketplaces to enter the Turkmen market.
Raising pressing issues, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation also pointed to the great potential in transport, where the joint development of rail, road, and air transportation is a priority. In this context, the need to utilize the capabilities of the "North-South" international transport corridor was also noted. In this context, Khusnullin emphasized that Turkmenistan's geographical location offers great prospects for all modes of transport, including access to the markets of Central Asia, Pakistan, India, and Iran.
The Russian Deputy Prime Minister also shared that he sees great potential in sports for athletes to participate in various competitions. Marat Khusnullin invited the Turkmen side to participate in the International Youth Festival, which will be held in Krasnoyarsk in 2026.
Following the meeting, a substantial package of documents was signed. These include the protocol of the intergovernmental commission, plans for developing cooperation between the ministries of education and training, between Rosreestr and the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan, and agreements between Russian exchanges and the Customs Service of Turkmenistan.
