A festive reception was held at the “Grand Hyatt” hotel in Seoul, organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Korea on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Independence, the 30th anniversary of its Permanent Neutrality, and the proclamation of 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust” by the United Nations.
The event was attended by representatives of the Government of the Republic of Korea, the National Assembly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other state institutions, heads of public organizations, ambassadors of foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Seoul, Turkmen students studying in Korean universities, as well as representatives of local and international media.
The honorary guest of the ceremony was Mr. Lee Jae Woon, Deputy Minister for Public Affairs and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.
In his speech, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Korea, Mr. Begench Durdyev, spoke in detail about the significant achievements Turkmenistan has made since gaining independence, as well as the wide-ranging reforms implemented in political, economic, and humanitarian fields. He highlighted the peaceful foreign policy pursued under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The Ambassador also emphasized that the resolution proclaiming 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust” was unanimously adopted at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly at Turkmenistan’s initiative, with 86 co-sponsoring countries — a testament to the country’s growing international recognition.
In his remarks, Mr. Lee Jae Woon noted that the Turkmen-Korean relations, based on mutual understanding and friendship, have reached a new level through the efforts of the two nations’ leaders. He also highlighted the significance of the telephone conversation held on August 29, 2025, between the Presidents of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea, as further proof of deepening cooperation.
