The Turkmenistan national football team defeated Sri Lanka. In the first official match at the new Arkadag Stadium, the home team secured a 2-1 victory in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifying tournament.

Elman Tagayev (52nd minute) and Mekan Saparov (57th minute) scored for the winners. The visitors scored a goal in the 65th minute after a deflection off Guychmyrat Annagulyev.

The Turkmen football team will play their next match in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifying match on November 18, 2025, in Arkadag against Chinese Taipei, and will conclude the qualifying tournament on March 31, 2026, with an away match against Thailand.
