On October 23, the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Turkmenistan held a briefing on tourism development and attracting Turkmen tour operators to joint cooperation. The head of the diplomatic mission, Ravshanbek Alimov, spoke about the current achievements of Uzbekistan's tourism industry and called on Turkmen partners to actively collaborate. This was reported by a Takyk correspondent.
According to the head of the diplomatic mission, the cities of Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, and Shakhrisabz, included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, are home to architectural monuments, madrassas, mausoleums, caravanserais, and mosques that have become symbols of Eastern civilization.
"Today, Uzbekistan offers not only traditional historical and cultural routes but also new travel formats that reveal the country from a variety of perspectives," Alimov said.
Among these, the ambassador highlighted green and ecotourism, ethnographic tourism for those seeking a more authentic experience, pilgrimage tourism, adventure and extreme tourism, and gastronomic tourism.
The ambassador noted that 8.6 million foreign tourists have visited Uzbekistan since the beginning of 2025, and currently, the country receives approximately 1 million tourists per month.
Presenting this data, Alimov encouraged Turkmen tourism companies and investors to participate in large-scale projects in Uzbekistan, where the state has created favorable conditions, including tax and customs incentives. Specifically, he called on them to build hotels, create recreational areas, and create transportation hubs.
The head of the diplomatic mission also identified the creation of the Khiva-Kunya-Urgench-Ashgabat-Mary-Bukhara cross-border tourist route as a priority. He also invited partners from Turkmenistan to participate in the Tashkent International Tourism Fair, scheduled for November 27-29.
In conclusion, the diplomat emphasized that relations between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are characterized by good neighborliness, mutual trust, and strategic partnership, in which tourism is a driver of their development and a tool for promoting public diplomacy.
